I restored this gloriously 90s chrome Univega to it's former glory
This is (I believe) a 1996 Univega Via de Oro.
It was considered a 'hybrid' bike for its time. It's made from pulse welded aluminum and is pretty stinkin' light.
I purchased this bike for less than $100. I had to purchase a new rear wheel as the one on it was beyond repair. I am not a fan of grip shifters so when I converted to a 1x drivetrain I swapped the shifter out for a Shimano Deore trigger shifter.
The handlebar was badly bent on one end. I am fairly certain this bike did not get much use but was rather buried under something heavy in storage. I was able to trim the handlebars and salvage them. Unfortunately the super neat Cane Creek Bar ends could not be saved.
The original cables were in fantastic condition so I just reused them for the brakes. The brake levers would barely move until a little of wd-40 brought them back to like new function.
I've made a few significant changes to the bike since I finished filming. I got higher performance brake levers, wider bars, and a shorter stem, as well as swapping out the crankset with a larger chainring. The bike is technically too large for me (I'm 5'11) but I love the way it rides and it's super comfortable so I have put down quite a few miles on it so far.
Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy my video.

This is a 1984 Suteki touring bike, made by Panasonic. Apparently it was sold in the Sears catalog in '83 for $500. Sound like an astronomical price for 1983? You'd be correct. Apparently it didn't sell well because the next year you could get TWO of them for just over $400. If all the parts had been original I might have considered restoring it but several things had been replaced over the yea...

I've always been a bit obsessed with miniature things, so I thought it might be fun to try to make a tiny version of an ACB 90 from Battlefield 4. It turned out to be quite a bit tougher than I originally thought it would be. This was just an experiment purely for fun. Making a Kiridashi with Bamboo Longboard Handle Scales
Переглядів 19 тис.7 років тому
This is a Kiridashi made from mystery spring steel. I had a broken long board that I'm planning on reshaping so I used some of the extra bamboo to make the handle scales. This is only my second knife made on my craftsman grinder, so I initially screwed up the bevel as this was my first attempt at a 'chisel' grind. I had to reprofile the edge but I thought it ended up looking kinda cool. Conside...

    I really enjoy seeing someone take old things and make them look like new again! I have an old late 70's Trek that I'd like to upgrade. But, it seems so expensive. I think I'll just give it a good clean up, grease all the bearings, and just ride it like it is.... or was...

    Thank you for the video. After being totally frustrated about what i thought was that my ranger had a leveling kit , was the rear springs just totally out to lunch. So hit the junkyard and with a plan, thank you very much, 50 dollars for the leafs out of the sport tracs and they are definitely up for the job. The whole process went almost seamless, rain was my only problem. The ranger has about 4 to 5 inch lift above what is was, and the sport trac leafs have more capacity, so its a win-win . Thanks again, i will be talking about this big upgrade. Just couldnt hit the magic torque like you did so there is aspiration there. haha. love it man keep it up!!!!

    Hey brotha, I just found this exact Panasonic Frame. Watching you bring it back to life is really making me want to buy it. I want to turn it into a fixed gear. Do you have any advice from doing this build. Or any tips on anything I should check for or do?

    I did this myself and yeah it worked fine the first time. The problem is the cheap pad he used for it. He got that at harbor freight. Hot kydex changed the shape of the pad. You have to continue to change out the pad every new job you do. Otherwise you get line and uneven molding. Look for a better pad, I am.

    Very cute and all, but does that mean he's never going to make another knife? And a lot of those items can be used for working on things besides knives. If he makes 2, then it's "only" $2,472.81 per knife. If he makes 100 of them, it's only $49.46, which is pretty good for a hand made knife. And what's his time worth? It would be better titled, "What it can cost to get into knife making". Not all those things are required.

      It's an absolute different feel of riding. It may be disadvantage for some conditions. But the overall feeling more than makes up for it. Try it, you may not want to go back to freewheeling. I first bought one with a flip flop rear hub, in case I didn't like it at least I'd have a regular single speed, I never put it to freewheel after riding fixed!

    If you wanna bring the rear back down you can do something called a "shackle flip" and that'll give you about 1.5-2 inches of drop. Though if you want increased load capacity, I'd probably leave it as is with the rake.

    Excellent video. I wish you were making a gun holster instead, but interesting regardless. I'm wondering why have hinges at all. Just sandwich the object between the pads and vice it up. Maybe I'll try. Thanks buddy!!

    • @DonylynKnives
      @DonylynKnives Рік тому

      You don't need the hinge, it just makes it a lot easier to clamp. A lot of people just use two thick blocks of wood and sandwich them. So many people have mentioned holsters I've thought about doing another video making a holster press.

    Would this work for a pistol holster?

    • @DonylynKnives
      @DonylynKnives Рік тому

      Pistols are significantly thicker than knives, so you would probably need to use some legitimate kydex foam. It's much thicker and far more pliable. The harbor freight mat is too thin and dense

  • @parkerjames5112
    @parkerjames5112 Рік тому

    Also I re did the entire front end on my 99ranger 2.5. Torque wrench from harbor freight gave same measurements as a 100$ torque wrench we used at our tool and die shop. Gotta be more gentle with that torque wrench tho. Other than that mainly it’s just the inner tie rod tool.

    • @DonylynKnives
      @DonylynKnives Рік тому

      Hell yeah man. I don't have the ranger anymore, but I'm about to do the front end on an older Jeep liberty to get it back on the road. It's all the same though.
